THEN, NOW and in the FUTURE.
According to available records kindly supplied via the OLDHAM CHRONICLE, our origins started as the ‘Oldham Field Naturalist and Photographic Society’ in or around 1903. From this organization some members who were enjoying the fast growing hobby of Photography, formed the ‘Oldham Equitable Photographic Society’ , under the wing of the blossoming ‘Co-operative Society’ whose patronage we still enjoy to this day. Our present title of ‘The Oldham Camera Club’ was finally adopted in 1976. Over the 100+ years of our existence we have met in various venues in the Oldham area which up to recently included the prestigious Lyceum on Union Street , but due to its closure we were found accommodation in the new ‘Life Long Learning Centre’ which was built on the Oldham Art Gallery and Library which is also on Union Street, Oldham. The Oldham Camera Club caters for all who are interested in the productive and fascinating pastime of Photography, and within its ranks you will find members of either sex, and of all ages and abilities with whom you can learn, improve and share your hobby. New members are always welcome without restriction regardless of Religious or Cultural backgrounds, our only aim is to unite together and enjoy the universal pleasure and creativity that photography brings. A generous grant from the ‘Awards for All’ scheme enabled us to purchase the necessary computer and digital projector, plus associated equipment, to enable us to move into the digital age. So, regardless of your chosen medium, be it tradition film photography or digital, your needs and preferences can all be catered for. You do not need expensive equipment to start with, the most important thing is you A look at our Syllabus will show you the range of attractions that we can offer to our members. From lecture evenings, where we are educated and entertained by the very best in the Northern Photography world, to workshop evenings when you can join in to produce exhibition quality pictures and prints. Within the Club there is also a dedicated group which meets monthly, in another location, to further their knowledge of the wonderful world of digital picture manipulation using the many ‘tools’ now available. There are also evening and weekend Club Outings to various places of interest. You can join in Club and Interclub competitions, where your work can be judged and admired against your own club members, or photographers from other Clubs. The ‘Oldham Camera Club’ can offer you an entry into a great hobby and past time , plus a new circle of like minded friends. You are welcome on a ‘look and see’ visit any Thursday evening without any obligations, and if you like us you can join ….I’m sure you will! After all, our motto is:- Fun, Friends and Photos.
