New Events  - Themed Evenings

By special request of some of our members, we will be holding themed contests throughout the year (approximately once a quarter).

These are just for fun and don’t count towards the Photographer of the year. No prizes are on offer, but you can get some constructive comments from other members and then decide whether to use your pictures for the P.o.Y contest at a later date.

Members can enter a maximum of 3 digital pictures ( sized as usual) and 3 prints ( A4 size, unmounted ). These will be voted for by members on the evening.

The first theme , on 3rd June 2010 is Churches. At the end of the evening we will decide on a theme for the next fun contest . Ideas we’ve already had are :- flowers, transport , and  pubs (this will be a good one, with a few out of focus shots perhaps, but we will enjoy this theme!).

We have had Churches & Bridges so far, our third theme will be Lone Tree. We hope you will enjoy this one as much as the two previous ones.

Our next theme is Benches - in April 2011. In June our theme is “shop fronts”.

2011  Annual exhibition at The Ebenezer Church

Our annual exhibition at The Ebenezer church was a great success with

well over a hundred  people  voting for their favourite print.. The feedback

we got was really positive  and most visitors were kind enough to  register

their vote.

For the first time ever we have had people e-mailing us to say how much they

enjoyed the exhibition and the variety of subject matter.

I think you will all agree that it was an excellent venue for us, and thanks to the

Pastor and his wife for all their help and support.

Once again, I would like to thank the members who gave up their time to help in any way.

We could not have done it without you ( YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)

Photographer of the Year 2010.

After finally locating and engraving the cup we were able

to present it to the winner of this annual competition.

The presentation took place on Thursday 27th April 2011.

The winning photographer was Eric Brook who had accumulated

the highest number of points over the four rounds of the

competition.

This is the first year that we have used a new scoring system,

much easier to understand for everyone! I think we all agree this

is a lot fairer than the old way of scoring.

A worthy winner!

The Ted Coleman Competition at Rochdale CC

On Tuesday 24th May three of our members attended the competition at Rochdale CC. This was a digital projection knockout contest. There were about 14 clubs entered and after each round the lowest scoring clubs were knocked out of the contest. We did very well to get through the first round and were just a point away from getting through to round three. We can be very proud of our performance on the night as we held our own against many larger and more experienced clubs in the digital format. Although we didn’t get any 20 marks we did manage several 17s and 18s.

These are the kind of contests we need to enter more so that we can gain experience and listen to the judges so that we know what they are looking for in digital images. We had a really good evening in a friendly and competitive atmosphere, and came away with lots of ideas for the future.

We look forward to next year when we hope to progress further in the competition. Also, we are hoping that more of our members attend these kind of contests to see what is wanted in the 21st century in digital photography.
